The movement of buying less and wearing more

Studies have suggested that the average person wears only 20% of their wardrobe regularly—inclusive of clothing and jewellery. That’s a lot of wasted time, money and effort. But, with the rise of companies like Rent the Runway and The Real Real, we are able to rent fashion, share items with others and recycle what we aren't wearing anymore. This movement has taken the world by storm, and also brought alarming statistics to the forefront about how much waste the fashion industry produces.

Our mindsets are shifting and our priorities are changing. For the savvy consumer it's not so much about how much more you can have, but how much you wear what you already own. It's about quality over quantity. It's about mixing and matching. It's about getting the best use of your items and investing in products that last. There's nothing wrong with buying into a trend. But, there's something to be said about having a strong staple collection—inclusive of clothing and jewellery—that will never go out of style.

Our aim with Vela is to do exactly this—provide you with a collection that can be worn any time, any where and in conjunction with any style. We want to reduce waste, contribute to society in a positive way and push this movement forward. We'd love to hear from you. Show us some of your mixed and matched outfits wearing your Vela piece and how you are supporting a better tomorrow.
